James LeVoy Sorenson, billionaire biotech pioneer, died Sunday of prostate cancer. He was 86.
Sorenson’s influence on Utah’s biotech community began in 1957 when he co-founded Deseret Pharmaceutical. In 1962, a formed Sorenson Research, which he later sold to Abbott Laboratories.

Stop the presses! Word on the street is that Avon is interested in buying Utah County lotions and potions juggernaut Nu Skin Enterprises.
“Last week, CNBC reported that Avon Products is interested in acquiring Nu Skin.”

Salt Lake City-based Montigen Pharmaceuticals previously announced it was being acquired by California-based SuperGen Inc. The deal has just recently been finalized, with SuperGen acquiring Montigen’s outstanding stock of $9 million in addition to paying $9 million in cash.
